Monday Evening Musings – Home With God

Men talk about sports. Some a little, some a lot, some too much. Men who spend their lives talking about Jesus have to take care not to mix in too many sports stories and metaphors into what we say – it really can alienate people whose passions run in different directions. But sometimes, something happens that just resonates so deeply that I have to share it. The following video captures Drew Brees, the quarterback of the New Orleans Saints, and his son Baylen in the aftermath of Drew’s Most Valuable Player performance in Sunday’s Super Bowl victory. His son is wearing ear protection because the crowd is so loud. Watch and see something wonderful.

There’s a day coming for the People of God, a day that might be the greatest day of our Father’s life. No more will He have to watch, heartbroken but patient, while His children suffer and those whom He loves remain broken and rebellious. One day, there’s going to be a celebration so huge, so raucous, so passionate, we won’t even begin to comprehend it all. We will be like little Baylen, surrounded by joy that transcends our understanding. But right alongside us, arms around us, whispering in our ear, encouraging us and strengthening up and just LOVING us, will be Our Father. Won’t it be wonderful then?
