There IS a God! He is ALIVE! Bible Journey Day 8

Bible Journey – Day 8

There IS a God, He is ALIVE!

Isaiah 11-23

At the end of seventy years the LORD will revive Tyre. She will start making money again by selling her services to all the earth’s kingdoms. Her profits and earnings will be set apart for the LORD. They will not be stored up or accumulated, for her profits will be given to those who live in the LORD’s presence and will be used to purchase large quantities of food and beautiful clothes.

(Isa 23:17-18 NET.)

These big chunks of Isaiah are kinda hard to wrap my head around and write about – Isaiah is one busy guy! The main thing I’m getting right now is at the worldview level. God is not distant, God is not out of touch, God has not hung up his guns and settled into his heavenly rocking chair.

To Isaiah, God is as close as a breath, as active and powerful as the wind, as uncontrollable as a storm. In a world where gods dwell on the hilltops, can be bribed (and thus controlled) with offerings, and whose vagaries and mad demands are utterly irrational and unconcerned with their devotees, Isaiah knows a different kind of God. Not a safer one, but a different one.

I want to know Isaiah’s god better! I’m afraid that the things I think I know about my God are often projections and transferences of my own desires and assumptions.

What do you think? Is the God we worship more like Isaiah’s god or the gods of the nations? Is the God we worship on Sunday morning different from the one we worship for the rest of the week?

In HIS love,
