You're NOT Stuck!
I’ve got a bit of good news from God for you today. Are you ready?
You’re NOT stuck!
I know things aren’t real easy for anyone right now. Adults, you’ve got economic struggles, family struggles, personal struggles. The life you’ve got now is NOT the life you dreamed of as a child. Young people, teens, you feel stuck in a spot where you don’t know what to do. Sometimes adults want you to act like an adult, and sometimes we want you to act like a child, and you never get a memo warning you which one we’ll want today. Plus, you’re dreaming of your future, and you want to make sure it comes out right.
We’re all scared of messing up. Maybe you’ve already messed up — and now, you feel like your whole life is ruined. Listen to this story from Jeremiah:
The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD: “Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will let you hear my words.” So I went down to the potter’s house, and there he was working at his wheel. And the vessel he was making of clay was spoiled in the potter’s hand, and he reworked it into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to do. (Jeremiah 18:1-4 ESV)
There’s some deep truth and good news here. The clay — that’s you and me — didn’t do what the Potter wanted. Was the story over? Clay thrown out? No way. Truth is, the clay will never be exactly what the Potter originally intended — it really was spoiled. But it really can still be made into something beautiful and useful in the service of God.
What’s the difference between people and clay? Of course. We get to choose! Listen to Jesus now:
O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not! (Luke 13:34 ESV)
YOU ARE NOT STUCK! The people you know who feel hopeless and stuck, the people you love and worry about and pray for — they aren’t trapped! No one in Jerusalem was trapped — when the voice of Jesus comes, there is freedom on offer. It won’t be easy — sometimes when the sun’s shining, you’ll want to run out from under Jesus’ wings, saying, “There’s no danger! What are you so worried about, Jesus?” Sometimes life will seem so dark and scary that being under Jesus’ wing will not even BEGIN to feel safe. I know. I’ve been there. I AM there.
And so is Jesus, holding out his arms and pleading for you to come. He will set you free, and he will fight to protect you. Just give him the chance.
in HIS love,
